This fabrication of a full-sized railroad locomotive engine training cutaway project fell under the unusual projects category. Supplied with pictures from the customer of a similar but simpler prime mover cutaway training aid, we worked with an existing locomotive prime mover that was 10' long by 4' wide by 7' high and weighed 5,000 lbs. Our engineering and design team planned out the horizontal milling, welding, and cutting to make the cutaway precise and accurate. Detail finishing included cleaning and painting so that this cutaway was suitable for a classroom situation.
